This past week has been stressful for me. If you’re not aware by now, I’m one of the founding directors of MEDAL. Many months ago, we were working on a project called MAP Camp. An event where MAPs can come together and enjoy fellowship with other MAPs, in the beautiful state of Vermont. On paper, it sounds like a great idea. But the implementation was doomed early on.
Due to disagreements over event security and ideology, the lead organizer of the event left MEDAL, and took the project with them. I was honestly relieved when they did. The way things were shaping up, I didn’t want to be part of MAP Camp, and I didn’t want MEDAL to be a part of it. If things had progressed as they were going, I was going to publicly blow the whistle on the project, at the expense of killing any of MEDAL’s credibility within the MAP community.
Unfortunately, even though MAP Camp was no longer a MEDAL project, our site still linked to the MAP Camp page, and thus we were associated with the project by proxy. This past week, antis got wind of the event and it became a shitstorm all over the internet. Since then, the other directors and I have been working to clean up the organizer’s mess, and do damage control for MEDAL within and outside of the MAP Community. MEDAL will be releasing a full statement about the MAP Camp fallout in the coming days.
Maybe it’s my ego. Maybe it’s because Mythebe gets on my nerves. – I thought when they left MEDAL, I would finally be rid of them… but alas Mythebe is still making trouble for us, months after resigning from the organization. The other directors have had to listen to my profanity-laced rants about Mythebe and the whole MAP Camp situation for the last week. But I digress. Maybe I’m being petty, but out of all the shitstorm we had to wade through this past week, this one post annoys me the most:
No, no and no. I never tutored Mythebe. What does that even mean? Like what would I tutor them on? “Put the dark glasses on so they don’t see when you’re looking at the children.” 🙄 And Mythebe didn’t register minorattracted.org… I did. Don’t give Mythebe credit for what I’ve done. And you damn sure don’t associate Mythebe’s problematic rhetoric and actions with me.
